 Situated just off the A229 from Maidstone to Hastings and close to the A262, is this charming old market town of Cranbrook. It is the perfect place to live, you to can then enjoy the buzz and amenities of this charming town.
Move away from the hordes and noise of the bigger towns and cities and remain close to the beautiful countryside which surrounds it on every side. Officially classified as the smallest town in Kent with around 7,000 residents, it has the feel of a large, friendly village but provides all the advantages of extra amenities: a good selection of local schools, sport, clubs and social events, good shops (both general and specialist), hairdressers, supermarkets, six churches, several hotels, pubs and restaurants, and even a town museum.

The local railway station closed in 1961 but Staplehurst station is just five miles away with direct trains to London, Ashford, Canterbury and the coast. The name, meaning crane marsh, dates back to around 1100 and in Medieval times the town was the centre of the Wealden cloth industry, with many watermills and windmills nearby, one of which remains to the north of the town today. Climbing to its top platform gives visitors splendid views over the town below with its pretty weather–boarded houses and the fertile orchards and farmland beyond.
17 miles east of Tunbridge Wells and just five miles north of Hawkhurst and Bodium Castle, you are never far away from larger towns, small picturesque hamlets and fascinating countryside. Other local villages include Sandhurst, Hurst Green, Goudhurst, Lamberhurst, Bedgebury and Sissinghurst with its famous castle and gardens. |
