Situated in east Kent about 55 miles from London, Canterbury has the perfect mix of city, river, coast and countryside. Perhaps most famous for its history and heritage, Canterbury has been welcoming travellers for centuries who have all left their mark, making it one of the most interesting towns in the UK. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its Cathedral, Abbey and St Martins Church, it also boasts two castles, six museums and a wealth of treasures dating back to the Middle Ages, including the famous journey of the pilgrims from London, originally provoked by Thomas Becket's murder in 1170.

The coastal towns of Herne Bay and Whitstable are nearby to the north, Faversham to the northwest and local villages include Rough Common, Sturry and Tyler Hill. The city is on the River Stour, flowing east to the English Channel at Sandwich. It is navigable on the tidal section to Fordwich and popular for canoes and punts in its shallower regions.

Two railway stations (East and West) connect the city to London (Charring Cross & Victoria), Dover, Margate, Ramsgate and Ashford. Canterbury is by passed by the busy A2, with the A28 running through the centre. National Express coaches also serve London Victoria and a good Park & Ride service eases congestion in the city centre.

Around one fifth of the adult population are students – home to the University of Kent, Canterbury Christchurch University and other Higher Education institutions, it has a vast choice of good schools including perhaps the oldest in the country: The Kings School. Sport, music and theatre all thrive, the latter especially due to the famous Marlowe Theatre and Concert Hall named after playwright Christopher Marlowe, born in Canterbury in Elizabethan times.

There is always a good selection of period homes for sale in Canterbury e.g. 2 bedroom terraced cottages, old town houses, etc. whilst the more modern 2 bedroomed starter homes and 3 bedroomed family homes tend to be in and around the surrounding area and prices still remain competitive.
