Where tradition and modern technology combine in the heart of the Kent countryside, lies a place with a history dating back over a thousand years. Far from the rushing crowds, yet within easy reach of London and all major destinations both in the UK and Europe, Ashford was originally established as an important market town most famous for trading livestock and has since grown to be one of the fastest developing towns in the UK. With its mixture of historic buildings, great pubs, restaurants, street cafes, green spaces and a lively nightlife, it has become Kent's leading location for business and a growing tourist destination.
Ashford lies on the River Great Stour, M20 motorway, South Eastern Main Line and High Speed 1 railways and is well known for serving as a gateway to the rest of Europe. Ashford International station opened with the Channel Tunnel in 1994 and now serves Eurostar trains to London, Lille and Paris with onward connections. It is well linked by road, including the M20 and A20 leading from London to the Channel ports; the A28 to Canterbury and Hastings and the A251 north to Faversham. There are good bus and cycle routes as well as a Ring Road to ease congestion, and plans for a fast public transport link between the town centre and the suburbs. The Ashford Green Corridor is a linear park alongside the river through the town and further afield lie the North Downs to the north and The Weald to the south.
Ashford's agricultural market is one of the most important in the county and features auctions of all sorts; from horses and sheep to the more usual cars, furniture, fine art and antiques. There is a wide choice of schools from pre–school to FE college, including Special Needs.
All of the above makes Ashford an ideal place to live. There are a wide selection of properties, from one bedroom apartments to three bedroom family houses and retirement bungalows, all at competitive prices. |
